If you’re dealing with heavy thermal loads and you can’t afford to wait around for things to warm up, this tube is your best bet. It’s a shortwave infrared source, which is just a fancy way of saying it puts the heat exactly where it needs to go—right onto the surface of your workpiece—instead of wasting energy heating up the air around it. Getting the power right At 1900W, you’re getting a massive amount of heat per inch. But here’s the thing: you’ve got to be careful with your power supply. If you under-voltage the lamp, it won’t get hot enough to do the job. Over-voltage it, and you’ll fry the filament way too soon. We built these to handle being switched on and off constantly, but make sure your controllers can actually take a 1.9kW load. You don’t want to be chasing tripped breakers all day. The secret sauce: Quartz and Halogen The tube is wrapped in high-purity quartz. Why? Because it can take the shock of going from cold to screaming hot in a split second without cracking. Inside, there’s a halogen gas doing some heavy lifting. As the tungsten filament starts to evaporate, the gas basically catches that tungsten and pushes it back to the center of the wire. It’s a clever little cycle that stops the glass from turning black and keeps your heat output steady for thousands of hours. Putting it into your setup These are great drop-in replacements for things like PET blowing, shrink wrapping, or drying lines. They’re easy to wire up. But a word of caution: these things runhot. Like, really hot. Keep them away from plastic housings or any sensitive electronics you actually care about. You’ll also want to make sure your cooling fans and reflectors are up to the task. If the heat doesn’t move away from the tube ends, the seals will fail. And one last tip: keep your reflectors clean. If they’re pitted or covered in grime, that 1900W of power isn’t going to hit your target. You’ll just end up wasting electricity heating up the frame of your machine.
