Because anything else would just warp or crack under the heat. Quartz can take the punch of a sudden temperature spike without breaking a sweat. The power side of things 2000W is a lot of energy. It hits the target hard. Because this is a short-wave IR emitter, the heat actually gets deep into your materials rather than just sitting on the surface. It ramps up almost instantly. Just a heads-up: make sure your power supply can handle the load. If you haven’t spec’d it right, you’ll be tripping breakers the moment you flip the switch. Why the halogen matters Inside the tube, there’s a halogen gas doing all the heavy lifting. It stops the tungsten from evaporating and sticking to the glass. Without that “cycle,” the tube would turn black and die pretty quickly. By keeping the glass crystal clear, the IR radiation flies straight through to your workpiece. It’s the difference between a lamp that lasts and one that’s a waste of money. Setting it up (and a few warnings) These are designed to slide right into standard 730mm industrial brackets, so the physical swap is easy. But here’s the thing: 2000W creates a massive amount of ambient heat. You can’t just use any old wire—get some high-temperature leads, or you’re asking for trouble. And please, check your cooling fans. If they aren’t moving enough air, your sockets will literally melt. One last tip? Use a polished aluminum reflector. If you don’t bounce that energy back onto your project, you’re basically throwing half your power into the air.
