Stop Paying the “Brand Tax” on Your IR Lamps
Let’s be honest. A lot of engineers keep buying those pricey imported infrared lamps just because they trust the name on the box. But when you’re heating PET preforms or PVC sheets, the brand doesn’t actually do the heating. The physics does. What you’re really paying for is wattage per centimeter and a specific emission spectrum. Everything else is just marketing. Getting the power right If you want a lamp that just works the moment you plug it in, the electrical specs have to be a perfect match. There’s nothing more annoying than dealing with bulky transformers because your lamp doesn’t match your machine’s 400V setup. It’s a waste of space and a headache to install. We build high-voltage quartz tubes that hit that 2000W to 3000W sweet spot within 300mm to 500mm. That’s the kind of heat density you need to soften plastic fast. Just a heads-up: when you cram that much power into a small tube, things get hot. Really hot. Make sure your wiring and clips can handle the heat, or you’re just asking for a meltdown. The stuff that actually matters: Quartz and Coatings Here is where the cheap bulbs fail. If you use low-grade glass, the tube will literally sag under the heat. We use high-purity fused quartz so the lamp stays straight and strong. Then there’s the coating. For plastics, you don’t want to just scorch the surface; you want the heat to actually sink into the material. We use specific coatings to shift the output from shortwave to medium-wave. It makes a world of difference in the final product. And we stick to R7s and Sk15 connectors. Why? Because they fit tight. A loose connection leads to arcing, and arcing leads to a dead lamp. Simple as that. Real-world use These lamps are all about direct radiation. They heat up instantly and cool down just as fast. If you’re doing PET blowing and your tolerances are tight, that speed is your best friend. You can usually swap these into your current ovens without messing with the control logic. One small tip: since these are domestic tubes, the length might be off by a millimeter or two. It’s nothing major, but just double-check your mounting clips before you flip the switch.
